Heishi Bracelets Artist Statement : The most interesting thing about my heishi bracelets are the unique names and charms that represent my niece Aaliyah and I. The biggest challenge was deciding how to create a third bracelet that included all the colors and still matched the color scheme. I chose these colors because they are some key colors that my niece and i like. These bracelets are inspired by her and my favorite colors. I believe these colors go together good because they are all soft pastel colors and contrast each other.
Stone Wire Jewelry Artist Statement: This pendant is for my big brother David. The stone and wire color choice represent him by his style and the things he wears. I believe that this stone will match his personality and style. The silver wire brings out the color of the stone by the light and dark contract on the colors. The most interest part of my wire jewelry is the twisted part at the bottom. This twisted part gives a better detail of the wire than just a plain silver wire like other designs display. A big challenge i had was trying to make my jewelry look like my sketch. I over came this challenge by trying my best and just kind of free styling some part of this design. I think that it came out very well even if the sketch and pendent aren't the exact same.
Polymer Clay Earrings Artist statement : I had picked these certian colors because they are my moms favorite colors. The main color that she likes is red. I had wanted to make these for her because they show how much i lover her and they are apart as her style. The biggest challenge i had was when my first set of earrings had broke and i had to remake one of the big hearts. This was a challenge because i feel that they did not match as well as the rest of the different parts. The most interesting thing about the polymer clay was the way that we could mix the colors and make different types of designs. I also believe that making the different shapes was really fun.
Jump Ring Earrings Artist Statement: These are a pair of earrings that i designed and thought were every creative. This was not my orignal design. One big challenge that i had to overcome was using the small hoops and getting the red beads to fit on to each hoop. I had created a pattern of 2 big hoops with a small hoop that had a red bead connected. When making this i used a single slightly smaller hoop that would connect each chain of the earring. I can improve on closing some of the rings tighter without have the shape change when manipulating these materials of the jump rings.
Metal Pendant Artist Statement : My pendant represents a lotus flower. This is the outside shadow of the flower. The pros using metal as a way to create jewelry is that it is harder to break. The cons of working with metal in jewelry is that if you mess up it shows and you have to take your time when working with this material. A major challenge that i faced was drawing the flower because everything was not equal. I had decided to just take the imperfections and i love it because not every flower is perfect. The most successful part of this jewelry is making the shape of my pendant (the circle). I feel that i can most improve on the shape of the flower.
REFLECTION :
My favorite jewelry making technique is the stone wire technique. This was my favorite because i got to learn how to make a fun pendant for my brother. I enjoyed this material because their were many different types of ways that the metal would be changed and formed to the stone as i desired. This was a lot easier them using something such as the medal pendant because it was a hard flat piece of metal.
